For the real espresso lover, it can take some deep searching to find the machine that will make the hearty, rich espresso true coffee connoisseurs desire. The La Pavoni PA-1200 Napolitana Stainless Steel Automatic Espresso Machine ends the long search for the perfect machine. You will not find a machine that will make a tastier espresso.

The La Pavoni PA-1200 is the perfect machine for both the beginning espresso drinker to the experienced coffee aficionado. The La Pavoni heats up quickly, so it is great if you need a caffeine pick-me-up before heading out the door in the morning. The brass boiler, brass head, and filter holder keep the La Pavoni Pa 1200 ready for use. The steam function allows for a rich froth for great cappuccinos.

Some complaints on the La Pavoni PA 1200 Napolitana include the noise from the grinder, which can be loud and bothersome. The grinder can also be quite messy, if you do not keep the filter tipped backwards; the reservoir can also be a little tight to refill. However, these issues are greatly outweighed most users’ agreement that the La Pavoni makes the most authentic espresso of any machine.

La Pavoni Napolitana PA 1200 Espresso Machine features: stainless steel baskets; built-in conical bur grinder and coffee press for ease in operation; 16 bars of pressure for the richest tasting espresso; 100 oz water reservoir allows you to make a little or a lot; removable drip trays for easy cleaning,; marine brass boiler for an authentic espresso taste.

I brewed a good espresso the first time I used the machine, and am getting a little better with each one. I like the fact that I can make adjustments with the grinder, and adjust how much pressure I use with the tamper, and thereby have control over the quality of my crema, and the strength of the coffee. Even though I am a novice barrista, I like the fact that this machine allows me to learn and get better.

The quality of the machine seems perfect. The stainless steel looks great and is easy to clean. The portafilter is heavy and stays hot for a long time. The steam frother works perfectly. The grinder is noisy, but I’ve never used one that wasn’t. I look forward to using this machine for years and years.

For centuries, from the trade ships of Columbus to those of Cheng Ho, the Chinese Merchant fleets, Gourmet Coffee have reigned the seas as one of the key merchant commodities most actively traded across the continents. You start to wonder what makes the Gourmet Brew so attractive that the coffee culture over the centuries and round the globe. It has become the epitome of coffee culture elegance and chic. Good food cannot do without a cup of gourmet brew, with some costing 65 dollars a cup. Now cost is any indication of the brew, that cup of kopi luwak is the most expensive and best tasting cup of gourmet coffee indeed.

Yet, there is somehow no true and exact definition it. More than half of the packages define their products as gourmet simply for advertising purposes. It is arbitrary to say the least. There are however a few criteria to guide you from weeding through the advertising jargon for the true gourmet coffee.

Electric Coffee Makers come with all kinds of features these days. Some have timers you can set so that the machine will start making coffee so it is ready the moment you need it-usually first thing in the morning! Some new coffee makers are designed to make exactly one perfect cup of coffee, no more, no less. Others can make a wide assortment of coffee drinks, including espresso, cappuccino, café latte, and many others.

Solo Coffee Drinking

A growing trend in coffee drinking is producing individual cups of coffee. To fill this new demand, there are more and more one cup coffee makers appearing. The majority of these coffee makers use a single serving pod of coffee to make the cup. This is ideal for a home that only has one coffee drinker, or where different flavors of coffee are required.

Of course having specially packaged individual pods of different flavors and styles does come at a premium so using this type of coffee maker can work out to be more expensive that the other coffee makers.

There are ways to buy gourmet coffee, the most efficient of course is buying them online. But execute caution as to the authenticity of the sites and their services. Get word of mouth testimonials from fellow coffee drinkers. An authentic coffee club provides great samplers packages, overnight courier gourmet coffee service, members forum and tasters parties, and much more. And not to mention you can also get special member discounts for all your purchases

Roasting coffee at home is really quite a simple concept however there is a huge margin for error. Home roasting takes some practice but is a great way to have fresher and cheaper coffee. Keep in mind however that when you do become proficient in your roasting skills you will still need a quality machine like the Jura Capresso ENA 5 if you want to achieve an excellent espresso beverage.

The concept of roasting your own beans is a simple one. You will need to be able to expose the beans evenly to air that is the temperature of at least 400 degrees for 5-10 minutes. You also must know the right moment to cool them. Although this may sound easy it is sometimes difficult to tell when to stop the roasting and also keeping the beans from roasting unevenly.

To start a new roast you will need a perforated surface that is oven proof such as a normal petal like vegetable steamer. Any type of pan with small holes in the bottom will do. You need to use something perforated so that the air can flow around the beans more evenly.

Layer a thin layer of green beans on the surface of your pan or steamer (if using a vegetable steamer you can fit a thin layer of approx. 3 oz. of beans). the green bean layer should be thin but can be 2 beans thick.

Your oven needs to be preheated to 425. Place your green beans into the oven on the middle rack once the oven has reached temperature. Set a timer or watch the clock for 10 minutes. If you have a sample on hand of a roast that you like it will be helpful as a reference color.

Shortly the coffee will start to release bound moisture because of the heat and you will start to hear crackling. The time to check on the color of the roast is after the beans have been making the cracking sound for one to two minutes.

Open the door of the oven and check the darkness of the beans, be careful not to take too long or your house will fill with stinky smoke. You need to check the color every couple of minutes until the color is slightly lighter than the shade that you are trying to achieve.

The reason you want to pull the beans before they are the final color is because they will continue to cook and darken while they cool. It is a good practice to put your hot beans in a well ventilated area to cool so the smell dissapates.

Don’t worry if your beans look a bit uneven or darker in spots than you were trying for. Your home roast will still taste better than any stale grocery store bought bean that is available.

Once a week I roast beans, let them cool and put them into my Jura Capresso ENA machine to use (I own the ena 5 cherry red… I love it).

At the the top of the list of types of espresso makers is the “super automatic espresso machine“. They should rename the category the “super-awesome super automatic espresso machine” because that more accurately describes these wonderful dispensers of caffeinated deliciousness.

Perfect Espresso at the touch of a Button

These machines truly are automatic. Right after it’s initial programming it will brew an espresso custom made to your personal taste specs, automatically, at the touch of a button. It will automatically grind your whole coffee beans for you; it will place the precise amount of espresso grounds within the brew group–based on your taste and strength preferences; it’ll perfectly tamp down the ground coffee; it will heat the water to the precise temperatures that you have pre-set; it will extract the precise volume of water to be used in brewing; finally, it’ll brew your coffee or espresso to the precise specifications that you had programmed–your individual, perfect cup of espresso. Wait–there’s more: the used coffee grounds will then be moved to the used grounds dump box! All automatically!

Become an At-Home Barista!

More and more espresso-drink lovers are becoming increasingly conscientious of the cost of paying for their everyday fix (occasionally 2X daily) and are selecting to become do-it-yourself espresso makers. Whilst coffee lovers increasingly desire to conserve money on their daily caffeine habit, they are not willing to abandon their favorite nearby coffee bars for a homemade espresso drink that’s only an imitation of the real thing. Dilemma? Not any more. These days there are numerous European espresso devices which are creatively designed, impressively engineered, and well-built that make creating your personal lattes and cappuccinos a piece of cake. And they can be as good or better than your local coffee bar barista can make!

There are many, many various completely automatic espresso machines on the market nowadays, coming from a range of manufacturers, and they are not all of the same high quality, and also the cost range is very broad. This can make it somewhat difficult to decide what type of machine is best for you.

Following is a brief summary of features that may be found on an espresso machine that fall into the “super automatic” category:

Water Use Control

This is a feature which allows you to choose and control the amount of water that is used to brew each drink.

Pre-Grinding

This feature will have your coffee beans already grinding while you make one shot of espresso so they are ready for the next shot.

Pre-Moistening the Ground Coffee

This function will lightly spray the coffee grounds just prior to brewing. This allows the aromatic and flavorful oils to start leaching from the coffee.

Temperature Control

If you like your coffee piping hot then you’re able to get it piping hot! You’re able to manage the temperature to brew at whatever temp pleases you.

Adjustable Dosing

You’re able to adjust the flavor and strength of your preferred espresso drink by increasing or decreasing the quantity of ground coffee used for each shot when you use this function.

Cup Warmer

Espresso is greatest when brewed directly right into a warm cup. Espresso coffee is brewed at a lower temperature than the temperatures at which drip devices brew. Should you brew an espresso into a cold cup your espresso might be too cool to enjoy.

Water Filtration Systems

This feature is truly great simply because your coffee will taste a lot much better if you’re able to get rid of chlorine and minerals from the water. The only manufacturer that offers a built-in water filtration system is Jura-Capresso.

Grinder Settings

Customizing the grind of your coffee beans is another way that you are able to adjust the taste and strength of your espresso drinks. Too fine and your coffee will most likely be bitter; not grinding it sufficiently and leaving it coarse will give you a weak cup of coffee.

Bypass Doser

It’s a very convenient feature in that it enables you to produce a cup of coffee using other than the coffee beans currently in the hopper. If you have a guest that would choose decaf but your hopper is full of espresso beans, you can merely pour pre-ground decaf coffee into the bypass doser and brew a cup of decaf.

Double Boiler System

If you have a double boiler system, and you are making a latte (for example) you will not need to wait, while your espresso cools off, for the system to re-heat sufficiently to create steam to froth your milk. This means that you will enjoy your espresso drinks, lattes, cappuccinos, and machiatos, at the temperatures at which they were intended to be served.

Digital Display

The digital or LCD displays will display you in plain english what is going on with the machine, as well as what needs to be carried out, like adding water, adding beans, or emptying the dump box.

You’ll Get What You Pay For

Some, but definitely not each and every super automatic espresso machine includes all of these features. More features generally adds up to a greater cost. Often lower priced machines that seem feature rich, and would therefore seem to be a great value, are lesser quality machines. It’s very frequently the case that these kinds of machines are not engineered or made well, and will most likely not last long. In the long run, what may appear like an up-front price savings will end up costing you much more, and you will never really enjoy the quality of the espresso you make.

Foaming milk for a specialty beverage is not hard once you know the procedure and have ample time to practice. There are a few basic steps to get the best foam for your beverage.

If you are using a commercial espresso machine or a quality home machine like the Breville die cast 800esxl espresso machine the foaming process will only take around 15 seconds to complete.

To begin you put the tip of the wand in the center of the pitcher. Make sure that the nozzle is one half inch under the top of the milk. When the nozzle is correctly placed you will want to open the valve for steam. You want to turn the valve all the way open.

The steam tip will be taking in air from the top of the liquid. The steam and air from the wand will cause the milk to expand forming a thick foam. It helps to tilt the pitcher to one side, which will create a whirlpool.

Making sure to keep the steam tip just under the surface of the liquid, lower the pitcher as the foam becomes dense. If you are doing this correctly you will hear an intermittent hissing sound, which is an indicator that the milk is taking in air. If you hear a jet-like howling sound you are too far down into the milk and need to bring the tip up nearer the surface.

Once the milk is stretched and you have your desired amount of foam you might still need to heat the milk the rest of the way. You can do this by placing the tip of the steaming wand at the bottom of the pitcher for a couple of seconds or until the pitcher feels hot to the touch on the bottom.

That is pretty much all there is to foaming milk.A bit of practice will make you a great barista in no time flat. If you are looking for a great machine to learn on, the Breville XX800ESXL espresso machine is an excellent choice without being cost prohibitive.

Conversely, the Digital Clock uses a 24-hour timer to help you have the perfect coffee cup you want all the time.

If there’s an espresso machine that’s a perennial favorite, and a real workhorse, it would have to be the Gaggia Classic. The Classic is one of Gaggia’s best selling models and has been for many, many years. This extremely affordably priced machine creates excellent espresso shots and deserves each and every bit of its top ranking.

This is the perfect entry level machine if you’re looking to purchase your very first real home espresso maker. The Gaggia Classic is a “semi-automatic espresso machine”. With this class of espresso machine you have control over grinding, dosing, tamping, and timing. If the coffee was ground correctly and the grounds were tamped with the right amount of pressure, the brew time should be around 28 seconds. With this device the brewing process is started by flipping the brew switch, and then to stop the brewing process you simply flip the brew switch in the opposite direction. If all goes well it ought to create a heavenly rich espresso with a thick cover of liquid gold crema. It may take a number of attempts at producing an espresso before you get everything just right – but don’t give up! Ultimately you’ll figure out the perfect grind, the perfect pressure to use to tamp the grounds, and also the exact amount of time needed to make the perfect espresso.

A notable feature of the Classic is that the portafilter and brew group on this machine are impressively substantial and well-made, and are almost as heavy as those on big commercial machines that cost multiple-thousands of dollars. The heavy, durable chrome plated brass portafilter helps stabilize the temperature during brewing.

Gaggia has done a superb job in designing and building this machine which results in it’s ability to easily make a superb espresso drink. It’s constructed like a tank with very sturdy stainless steel construction. The water reservoir is easy to fill, even while the machine is in use, and also the toggle switches are easy to use. Other excellent features, usually found only on commercial-grade machines, is a 3-way solenoid valve that automatically releases the pressure from the brew group, a really quick and efficient boiler, and a strong pump capable of producing up to 17 bars of pressure. It feels and acts industrial grade, but still looks excellent in the kitchen. Users rave about it’s ease of set up, ease of operation, and ease of clean-up. It makes espresso shots which are aromatic and full of crema every time. The machine includes a very good frother even though the frother does receive some complaints, primarily because it works so well at foaming milk when sometimes all you want to do is heat the milk by steaming it.

It’s very easy to fall in love with the Gaggia Classic simply because it’s so easy to make your favorite espresso drinks. The Gaggia Classic delivers espresso as good or better than those much more expensive manual lever and piston machines, or even the super automated machines. And the device operates flawlessly each and every time.

When the machine makes a poor espresso it is generally operator error. The instructions properly emphasize the significance of getting the best grind for your coffee beans and using proper tamping technique for making a superior espresso drink. What it eventually comes down to is the fact that you have to master all of the variables in using this device — grinding, dosing, tamping, and timing. When you do it will deliver an espresso drink that’s every bit as great as what you will pay $5 for at Starbucks.

There are quite a number of semi-automatic espresso machines in the same price range as the Gaggia Classic, but in the final analysis, you won’t discover another machine at this cost that offers the clean lines, the well-built sturdiness, the ease of operation, and also the quality of the espresso that the Classic does. This machine is so well built that it should last for years and years.

There is no more satisfying way to begin your day than by enjoying a rich, creamy latte or cappuccino that you made yourself. Treat yourself to a Gaggia Classic.
